Should Celebrities Become Lingerie Designers?

The team hasjust returned from the UK’s main lingerie event, Harrogate Lingerie & Swimwear Exhibition in search of exquisite new spring/summer 2008 designs.

Buyers always look forward to new lingerie and swimwear trends and innovations as highlighted on Harrogate catwalk. This year is was Caprice that stole the show with the launch of her new lingerie range. Former supermodel, Caprice graced the catwalk at the shows finale. The high visibility of Caprice brings into question the latest phenomena of celebrities becoming lingerie designers.

Is Caprice just another victim of jumping on the Elle Macpherson celebrity lingerie bandwagon? Elle has proven herself within the world of lingerie, as a businesswoman and hands on design partner. With sales reaching approximately 40 million a year, Macpherson definitely means business. Much of Macphersons success can be attributed to her reputation for producing high quality and stylish products with an excellent fit.

Caprice, former blonde supermodel turned singer/actress turned Big Brother housemate turned lingerie designer was quoted in the Telegraph as saying, I know everything about this business, except for the technical partIm not interested in the technical sideI only designI dont know how to make a bra.

What can we expect next? Perhaps Jessica Simpson will grace the next Harrogate catwalk with her new collection in February.

While celebrities try their hand at lingerie design, many companies remain committed to promoting designers they believe are the best in the industry, those who demonstrate high quality, technical superiority, fashion leadership and innovative lingerie designs.
