Starting your own business can be an exciting and rewarding experience. Knowing that no matter how much money you earn for your efforts it will all be yours to keep is the ultimate incentive. So why do most start up businesses fail? Because their owners often lose site of the one crucial task essential for success!

When you have a ‘regular’ job your life is easily structured. You know when work starts. You know when you get breaks. You know how long you get for lunch. You know when quitting time comes around, etc. etc. But most importantly you know that while you are at work you are expected to perform. Your boss doesn’t hesitate to remind you that you must WORK or you won’t get a paycheck. An easy concept to understand.

But what happens when you start your own business. All of the sudden there are no rules. No one to tell you what to do or when to do it. No starting time and no quitting time. For many, many people this is a business killing problem.

I never cease to be amazed by the number of people who start a business but forget that they still have to work! They sleep late; take long lunches, leave early to go to the gym, spend the day shopping and all sorts of other non productive activities. If you did this at your regular job you would get fired!

But with your own business, not working has far worse consequences. You won’t make any money and your business with fail.

You absolutely must develop the self discipline to concentrate on your work; to focus on the task at hand. In a nutshell, you must work! Train yourself to be productive and you will be amazed how your income grows.

Success doesn’t just happen; it must be earned through your hard work and personal dedication to your business.
