Job Losses and Redundancy Reach Record Heights
March 7th, 2009 Filed under: Uncategorized — Small Home Business AuthorJob losses and redundancy reach new extremes. Don’t be a statistic, know the economy and What drives industry trends.
Before I start I want to assure you that it is not my intention to bombard you with negative thoughts and strike fear into your heart! I hope that you appreciate that in order to improve your financial situation, you have to initially understand the severity of the current situation.
According to the BBC News site, redundancy figures for Britain increased from 1.4 million to 1.82 million between May 2005 and November 2008. This is an increase of 30% in just over a 3 year period. In the same article, economist James Knightly predicts that this figure could grow as high as 2.5 million by 2010, a further growth of 37%.
The stats are equally shocking in the US, Canada and Australia, to name but a few countries with similar economic problems.
So what does this mean for individual’s in jobs at the moment? Should they worry about losing their jobs and the wage that they currently depend on?
I often ponder what the media hopes to gain by providing us with these figures. We only ever read about the bad news and never seem to receive assistance, guidance and constructive advice through the media. So, is there another way?
There are many organisations keen to ‘consolidate your debt’ or give you ‘money for your home’ and even give you ‘no win, no fee’ legal support! These companies are clearly able to capitalise on the unstable economy and changes in public perceptions, so how can we do the same? Do you think the owners of these companies believe all of the negativity that is portrayed in the media?
I want you to consider whether or not there is such a thing as a safe secure job. If there is, what industry sectors are likely to be safer for longer periods of time? If there are alternatives to a job then what alternatives have you considered?
Don’t assume that because you were brought up to believe that a job offers the only way to earn an honest living, that this is necessarily the only way in the 21st century!
