Courier Jobs Dos and Don’ts of Technology

July 23rd, 2010 Filed under: Small Home Based Business — Small Home Business Author

One thing that can put many people off starting a new business, even courier jobs, is the thought that they will have to get to grips with all the technology there is out there. Well you don’t need to know it all and you don’t need it all… So before you rush off on a computer buying fest please take a few minutes to read this.

I have briefly outlined some of the things that would be beneficial to your business and some that you really don’t need.

Things You Could Do With Knowing and Having!!

A courier drivers business is a mobile business so try and get yourself a laptop.

Try and learn how to use excel spreadsheets, email and presentations. This will really help with the administrative tasks. Imperative to keep all running smoothly.

Setup a separate business line for your business. It is more professional and helps keep your family and business life apart.

Gain some knowledge regarding the internet and building websites. A well set up and optimized website is always a must for a good business.

Get yourself some business stationary – make sure you think about how you want your business to be portrayed and choose a suitable logo. You can always use this logo on your website too. Don’t commit yourself to a large order though, you should be able to negotiate a smaller amount to start with.

If you do decide to have a website be careful you are not signed into some expensive contract and make sure the domain name is registered with a hosting company you have access to.

Things You Should Avoid Doing!!

Don’t start your business without learning some basic spreadsheet facts or administration systems.

Don’t go out and buy loads of equipment that you won’t use or have any idea how to use. Get what you need to start with and then buy more as the need arises.

Get yourself a voice mail answer service to take your calls when you are out. Much more professional than an answerphone.

Don’t sign up for any longterm plans for anything!!! Negotiate and negotiate some more.

Don’t sign up for advertising programmes until you have decided what your business needs. If you get the wrong advertising you will end up flushing money down the toilet. If your not sure who and where to advertise take a look at your competitors and see what is working for them.
