Q&A – Isn’t this bad business ?

February 15th, 2012 Filed under: Internet Home Businesses — Small Home Business Author

‘I_hate_being_single’ asks a great question so I thought I’d post it here with an answer – enjoy:

I called an Internet service provider in my town to get Internet service in my home . They told me they only provide the Internet for businesses . Isn’t that snobbish ? ( “Putting the Internet in your home isn’t good enough for us !” ) What’s more, isn’t that bad business ? If you want the Internet in your home, your money is every bit as good as somebody who needs the Internet for his business . Wouldn’t you make more money providing the Internet for everybody who wants it ? What if you need the Internet for a home — based business ? Are they going to tell somebody “We can’t connect you to the Internet !” because he has a home — based business ? Are they going to connect him to the Internet, and then refuse to work with somebody who wants the Internet for fun ? If there was a law that said an Internet service provider had to provide the Internet for homes AND businesses, where would that “We only provide the Internet for businesses !” rule be ? Why shouldn’t there be a law like that ? Why would anybody say “We only provide the Internet for businesses !” anyway ? Thank you in advance for your answers .

Answer: Well I agree with you. However, if you live in a smaller populated area, it is often a cable company that is servicing your internet needs. So you are stuck with them. I have heard of some internet companies that call their internet plans “business,” but they will essentially install your internet anywhere. Home or office. And many times a “business” connection simply means it is dedicated. Whereas a general internet “cable” connection is shared by many living in the area. Like you said, you can always say you have a home based business, and they will install it in your home without problems. All they care about is that you pay them each month.Good Luck!
