August 3rd, 2007 |

I have been always fascinated by human mind. Its capability to come up with solution is unparalleled. For us, being creative and coming up with new ideas, answers and creative solutions, sometimes are easy, sometimes hard. Yet, it is an integral part of what makes us uniquely human and having the capacity to grow, enrich, enhance, improve and develop.

That’s why this article will help you develop your Brainstorming capabilities.

I believe Pushing ourselves beyond the limit, thinking outside the box for example are just some of the techniques we employ to come up with new ideas, inspiration and innovation.

Brainstorming is said to fall into THREE major phases or parts(process-steps)

  1. Fact finding (problem definition and preparatory steps)
  2. Idea generation
  3. Solution finding

Defining the problem is the first step, after which you need to gather any information that might relate to the problem.

Actual brainstorming activity is used to generate ideas, insights and angels to answer and solve issue and problem at hand.

Selecting the best ideas and solutions, implementing the answers round out the process.

The biggest error in B-S is rushing to a judgment, critique or dismisses something. Using our creative minds and energies is what we need to foster and focus less on the judging side of our brain!

Another mistake is to limit yourself. VOLUME and Quantity of ideas will lead to a couple of qualitative NEW IDEAS!

Someone once called brainstorming the enactment of cultivation of a dynamic “idea atmosphere.

So just let your ideas flow without any restriction. Just for the moment, imagine there is nothing impossible for you to achieve. Key points for you to remember…

Have a recording secretary write down all ideas (two preferably are better ensuring nothing falls between the cracks or gets missed.)

Group brainstorming sessions should last about 20-30 minutes. It does not have to go on for hours!

DO not allow power relationships and influences to infiltrate the exchange and generation of new ideas

Keep them in mind for your next brainstorming session.
